Track: Wildcats girls 5th, boys 8th after day 1 of league meet

After the first day of the two-day Western Conference track championship meet at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Wednesday, May 11, the Oak Harbor girls are in fifth place and the boys eighth.

After the first day of the two-day Western Conference track championship meet at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Wednesday, May 11, the Oak Harbor girls are in fifth place and the boys eighth.

The majority of the meet concludes Friday in Oak Harbor starting at 5 p.m.

Wednesday featured preliminary heats in the bulk of events and only four finals.

Janelle Yoshimoto placed second in the girls javelin (105-08.75) for the best Wildcat showing.

Janessa Ramos grabbed fifth in the long jump (15-03.75).

Christina Wicker (11:42.03), Adrianna Royal (11:52.51) and Alex Laiblin (12:01.82) went 6-7-8 in the 3,200.

Dominique Jackson was seventh in the discus (90-06.5).

Matt Reith earned the only points for the boys by running to seventh in the 1,600 (4:35.04).

Glacier Peak leads the girls standings with 57 points. Shorecrest has 54, Everett 28, Shorewood 23 and Oak Harbor 22. Meadowdale, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood didn’t score.

In boys, Everett leads with 56, and Shorewood has 34, Shorecrest 29, Glacier Peak 27, Mountlake Terrace 21, Lynnwood 11, Meadowdale 4 and Oak Harbor 2.
