Track: Wolves capture 5 individual titles in league meet

Tyler King and Hunter Hammer led the way for the Coupeville boys who finished fifth in the eight-team meet with 63 points. King’s won with 183.67.

Madison Tisa-McPhee and Kyra Ilyankoff paced the sixth-place girls who earned 58 points; King’s led the field with 195.

King, attempting a grueling quadruple, won the 1,600 (4:24.25) and 3,200 (9:44.99), finished third in the 400 (53.29) and bounced back minutes later to place second in the 800 (1:59.62).

Hammer broke his school record of 51-00.5 in the shot put by winning with a heave of 51-03.75. He also placed second in the discus (144-06).

Mitch Pelroy placed sixth in the 100 (11.66), fighting through an injury suffered during the preliminaries of the 200 that kept him out of the finals.

The Wolves ran to sixth in the 4×100 relay (Aaron Nell, Brandon Kelley, Stephen Edwards, Chris Potts, 52.52) and eighth in the 4×400 relay (Larry Hurlburt, Edwards, Jake McCormick, Sam Landau, 4:11.72).

In the girls meet, Tisa-McPhee won the 100 hurdles (16.91), placed second in the 300 hurdles (50.28) and finished third in the 4×200 relay with Anna Bailey, Grace LaPoint and Jai’Lysa Hoskins in a season-best 1:53.15.

Ilyankoff captured the javelin (116-06) and was seventh in the shot put (31-01.75).

Hoskins placed third in the 200 (27.29), fourth in the 100 (13.35) and third in the 4×400 relay with Cassidi Rosenkrance, Bailey and LaPoint in a season-best 4:26.54.

The 4×100 relay team of Joye Jackson, Rachel Wenzel, Emily Clay and Nicole Becker finished sixth (1:00.18) and LaPoint grabbed seventh in the 400 (1:06.17).

Coach Randy King said, “We had a great meet with five league champions, and our seniors led the way.”

The Wolves head to King’s Thursday, May 19, and Saturday, May 21, for the tri-district meet.
