He had to work overtime and through steady rain, but Rob Treece captured the 49th annual Whidbey Golf Club Men’s Invitational Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25.
While Treece produced the low gross score, a two-over 146; Frank Murphy won the tournament low net title with a 134.
Treece and Robert Tercero finished tied for first, then Treece drilled a 15-foot putt on the first playoff hole to claim the championship, the first to be decided by a playoff in six years.
Treece, who shot a 73 Saturday, entered Sunday’s final round in fourth place out of a field of 120 behind Gene Whitley (70), Tercero (72) and Brian Wasinger (72).
Keith Tod took the Flight 1 low net title (142).
Whitley finished with the best Flight 2 gross score of 152; Jeff Rodgers placed first in Flight 2 low net (139).
In Flight 3, Vince Hagel posted the best gross score (167) and Pat Tompkins the best net tally (140).
Gold Tee winner was Tom Belew (142).
