Sultan used two five-run innings to bury the Coupeville baseball team 11-1 in six innings Wednesday, April 18, at Robert Sherman Field.
The game was scoreless going into the third when the Turks used four hits, a walk, a balk and two wild pitches to score five runs, four unearned.
Two innings later, Sultan (5-8, 8-8) put up five more runs on only two hits thanks to five walks.
The Wolves could do little against Sultan starter Jay Leverett who struck out eight, walked none and surrendered only four hits.
Coupeville’s run came in the fifth when its first two batters, Morgan Payne and Kurtis Smith, reached on errors. Aaron Curtin’s infield hit scored Payne.
Payne, Jake Tumblin and Wade Schaef notched the other Coupeville hits.
The Wolves (0-9, 2-13) go to Granite Falls (6-4, 7-5) at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in a makeup game and then go to Nooksack Valley (1-6, 1-11) at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, for a nonleague game.
