Oak Harbor hosts a pair of sprint triathlons — one for youth and one for all — this month.
The Whidbey Island Junior Sprint Triathlon for this summer is set for Sunday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m.
The kids’ triathlon begins and ends at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool and is sponsored by the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District.
The race consists of a 147-yard swim, a 2,000-yard bike ride and a 600-yard run.
The bike ride is on a closed, grass course and a helmet is required.
The event is open for youths 6 to 14 and relays of any age. Awards will be given to the top three in each age group.
The fee is $10 and participants will receive a T-shirt and dessert. Pre-registration is required by Aug. 6.
Stop by the pool or call 675-7665 for more information.
The North Whidbey Park and Recreation District and NAS Whidbey NWR are co-spronsoring the Seaplane Sprint Triathlon Sunday, Aug. 21.
The race will take place on the Seaplane Base portion of NAS Whidbey Island and no special passes for access will be required for participants, volunteers and spectators.
The race will consist of a 500-yard swim in Crescent Harbor, a 12-mile bike ride and a 2.7 mile run.
Participants will be divided into 11 age groups, and relay groups of men, women and mixed will be divided by combined age.
Awards will be given to the top three in each division, and all participants will receive a T-shirt if registered before Aug. 8.
