Volleyball: Oak Harbor puts away Arlington 3-1

Strong finishes in the first and fourth games carried the Oak Harbor volleyball team to a 3-1 win over visiting Arlington Tuesday, Sept. 21.

The Wildcats took the contest 25-21, 25-11, 17-25, 25-15.

In the first game, the scored was tied 21-all when Oak Harbor picked up its game to close out the win.

The momentum carried over to the second set when the ‘Cats raced to an 11-3 lead and were never challenged.

The Eagles (1-3) bounced back to take game three.

In the fourth game, Oak Harbor was up 18-14 when it sprinted to the finish behind the serving of Christina Alexander and the hitting of Janessa Ramos, who had four kills in the seven point run.

Ramos finished the night with nine kills, Amanda Blau added six kills and Roshell Muzzall had four kills (with no hitting errors) and three aces.

Kelsey Terrazas-Cooley helped the offense with six aces and the defense with 25 digs. Kristine Bouchard had three blocks.

Coach Kerri Molitor said, “When we are focused and aggressive, we do very well. Eliminating unforced errors continues to be our challenge. Although I was disappointed with our third set, I was happy that they could regroup and get back on track for the fourth set.”

Molitor said the keys to the win were aggressive defensive play and strong serving; although she was concerned with the consistency of getting serves in.

Oak Harbor (3-1) travels to Lynnwood (3-0) Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. to begin Wesco 3A play.
