After waiting through three days of rainouts, Oak Harbor sophomore Jackson Wezeman finished fourth in the Wesco 3A North singles tournament and qualified for the district meet.
The district tournament, which includes the top four finishers in singles and doubles from the North and South divisional playoffs, begins at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Jackson High School in Mill Creek.
The North tournament, washed out by rain Tuesday through Thursday, was played Friday, Oct. 24, at Arlington High School and Saturday, Oct. 25, at Skagit Valley College.
Wildcat singles player Carter Saar and the doubles teams of Tom Dale/Raymond Paraiso and Kyle Martin/Jared Alano-Gray also competed in the divisional meet but did not qualify for district.
Wezeman, who entered the 14-person divisional tournament as the No. 4 seed, defeated 13th-seeded Tyler Hartman of Marysville-Getchell 6-0, 6-1 in the first round.
He then stopped fifth-seeded Henry Jennings of Stanwood 7-6(3), 6-2.
Top-seeded and eventual champion Ulises Acevues of Everett defeated Wezeman 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
On Saturday, Wezeman beat third-seeded Tristan Hasseler of Marysville Getchell 6-4, 6-2; and then lost to sixth-seeded Max Jeffery of Ferndale 7-4, 6-2 in the match for third and fourth places.
Seventh-seeded Saar, a senior, started the tournament with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over 10th-seeded Nick Taschereau of Everett. He then lost to second-seeded Michael Wolf of Stanwood 6-3, 6-0. Wolf went on to place second.
Oak Harbor coach Horace Mells said Saar injured an ankle and suffered from a leg cramp in the match with Wolf and was forced to default his next match to Hesseler.
Both Oak Harbor doubles teams lost in the single-elimination first round.
Eighth-seeded Dale, a senior, and Paraiso, a junior, lost 6-3, 6-4 to Arlington’s ninth-seeded Coleman Davis and Rawley Davis.
Eleventh-seeded Martin, a senior, and Alano-Gray, a junior, fell to sixth-seed Kevin Rietveld and Jacob Sorenson of Ferndale 6-2, 6-0.
