Oak Harbor High School senior Jackson Wezeman stayed alive in the District 1 3A Tennis Tournament by splitting a pair of matches Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Arlington.
Wezeman, the No. 2 seed from the North, lost to Squalicum’s Colin Weller 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round, then recovered to defeat Everett’s Ryan Burt 6-0, 6-3.
Wildcat senior JJ Mitchell, the North’s No. 3 seed, dropped two matches and was eliminated. He fell to the South No. 2 seed Gunnar Thorstenson of Shorewood 6-1, 6-2 and was edged by Steven Lin of Shorewood 2-6, 7-6(5), 7-7(4).
The tournament resumes Thursday, Oct. 27, when Wezeman takes on Thorstenson in the consolation semifinals.
