Christina Wicker of the Whidbey Island Running Club captured two firsts and a second at the USA Track Federation Junior Olympic Association Championships for Western Washington June 25 and 26 at Chief Sealth High School in Seattle.
Twenty-six teams and numerous unattached runners took part in the event.
WIRC of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District sent 24 competitors to the meet and 17 finished among the top eight and 88 percent earned personal records.
Next up is the regional competition at Spokane Falls Community College July 9 and 10.
Wicker, running in the intermediate girls division (15/16), grabbed Athlete of the Meet for WIRC by running PRs while winning the 2,000 steeplechase (7:40.78) and 800 (2:24); she was second in the 400 (1:01.22).
John Rodeheffer finished first in the intermediate boys 2,000 steeplechase (7:09.55) for the only other WIRC win. He also placed fifth in the 3,000 (9:42.61).
Laura Rodeheffer (midget girls, 11/12) claimed Most Exciting Finish by making up 40 meters in the final 100 to move from fifth to second in the 800 (2:40.69). She added a fourth in the 1,500 (5:24.33).
Jonalynn Horn claimed Most Improved honors, going from a 13:11 in the 3,000 three weeks ago to an 11:55 on Sunday.
