Another day, another dominant performance by the Oak Harbor High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Corps.

The Wildcat Battalion gathered up nine first places Saturday, Jan. 30, at Everett High School in the eight-school competition.

Oak Harbor squads took first in five of the eight team competitions: unarmed drill, physical strength No. 1, color guard No. 2, sporter air rifle and precision air rifle.

Physical strength No. 2 and armed drill placed third, and color guard No. 1 took sixth.

In individual competition, the Wildcats finished 1-2 in four of the disciplines: Elena Flake and Austin McBride in precision; Callie Nuttall and Chante Powell in female physical strength; Jose Cabigting and Alex Hartley in male physical strength; and Noel Pangilinan/Hartley and Kegan Small/Kelvin Canonizado in unarmed exhibition drill.

Micah Moss, Steven Richards and Mia Gehrmann placed second through fourth in sporter, while Montana Koslowski and Julia Flake took fourth and fifth in precision.

Ria Bains (unarmed drill team commander) and Nathan Larsen/Jonathan Fransisco (individual armed exhibition drill, duals) earned seconds.

Others placing third were Larsen (armed drill team commander), Alex Staerke (unarmed drill down) and Luke Davis (armed drill down).

Based upon the results of the divisional meets, the top three squads in each team category qualify for the regional meet at Bethel High School March 19.

With one divisional meet remaining (Feb. 27 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School), all 10 Wildcat teams have a shot at qualifying. Currently, six are in first, two are in second, one is in third and one is in fourth.
