The Oak Harbor girls cross country team missed a perfect score by one place and the boys won via a tie-breaker in the Wildcats’ only home meet of the season Thursday, Oct. 3, at Windjammer Park.
The Wildcat girls took the top four spots and missed grabbing the fifth by 14 seconds as they defeated Marysville Getchell and Shorewood 16-43-77.
Oak Harbor captured the top two spots in the boys race, but Shorewood’s depth helped it tie the Wildcats with 30 points. That kicked in the tie-breaker, which is the sixth-place finisher for each school. Brendan Bristow ran sixth for Oak Harbor, placing 12th overall. The Thunderbirds’ sixth-place runner finished 14th.
MG placed third in the team standings with 76 points.
Alex Laiblin (18:37), Jonalynn Horn (18:49), Laura Rodeheffer (19:27) and Marisa Sligh (20:12) swept the first four spots for the Wildcat girls.
John Rodeheffer (15:11) and Clayton Richardson (15:33) went 1-2 for the boys.
Oak Harbor joins Edmonds-Woodway at Stanwood at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8.
