The Wildcat United eighth-graded boys track team won the Northwest Middle School North League championship at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Wednesday, May 24.
Eleven schools and 444 participants took part in the meet, which featured divisions for seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls.
Wildcat United, a combined team of Oak Harbor and North Whidbey middle schools, claimed the eighth-grade boys title with 107.5 points. Burlington-Edison was second with 93.5.
The Wildcat United seventh-grade boys finished second to Anacortes 116-109.
Anacortes also won the eighth-grade girls crown with 102 points; Wildcat United placed sixth with 56.
Burlington-Edison was the seventh-grade girls winner with 153.5. Wildcat United earned 49 points, good for fifth.
The Wildcat United eighth-grade boys won four events on the way to taking the team title: Caden Leckelt, 200 meters, 24.75; Zachary Moore, 110 hurdles, 16.84; Matt Kelley, high jump, 5-04; and the 4×200 relay team (Colton Livingston, Brenden Andersen, Kelley, Leckelt), 2:07.15.
Cassie Stady (400, 1:10.65) and Ashley Shoemaker (100 hurdles, 17.04) won individual events for the Wildcat United eighth-grade girls.
The eighth-grade girls also won two relays: 4×100 (Mariko Johnston, Annie Salinger, Shoemaker, Stady), 55.4; 4×200 (Carli Hutchinson, Anisha Bains, Kali Pearcy, Johnston), 2:08.
The only other firsts for Wildcat United came in seventh-grade boys: Cooper Billiter, 800, 2:31.76; and Kanye Kitchens, shot put, 31.
