The Wildcat United middle school cross country team finished its season the way it started – dominating its competition.

Wildcat United, a combined team of Oak Harbor and North Whidbey middle school athletes, won the eight-school Northwest League championship meet at Skagit Valley College Wednesday, Oct. 21, easily outdistancing second-place Anacortes 266-299. Cascade Middle School of Sedro-Woolley placed third with 404 points, and Mount Vernon’s La Venture Middle School followed with 560.

Wildcat United’s strongest showing came in the eighth-grade girls race where it placed five runners in the top nine, led by champion Patricia Miessner (9:19). Megan Smith finished third (9:39), Addy Day sixth (10:25), Keelie Partridge seventh (10:31) and Ella Erikson ninth (10:41).

Wildcat United placed at least two runners in the top 11 in the other three races.

Colton Livingston (9:05) was second and Tanner Hackerott (9:37) eighth in the seventh-grade boys race; Octavia Prosser (10:19) and Annie Salinger (10:20) finished 3-4 and Ashley Shoemaker (11:08) eighth in the seventh-grade girls race; and Peyton Horn (8:50) ran fourth and Lincoln Bassett 11th (9:22) in the eighth-grade boys race.

“Ninety-five percent of the runners PR’ed from their previous race on the same course,” coach Mike Briddell said.
