The Oak Harbor High School boys golf team finished second in the first Wesco North match of the season at the Kayak Golf Course near Stanwood Tuesday, April 14.

The Oak Harbor High School boys golf team finished second in the first Wesco North match of the season at the Kayak Golf Course near Stanwood Tuesday, April 14.

Stanwood easily won the first of six matches featuring all six teams from the North with 419 strokes.

The Spartans were followed by Oak Harbor (444), Arlington (450), Marysville-Pilchuck (468) and Marysville Getchell (486). Everett did not have enough players to qualify for the team scoring.

Oak Harbor’s Mason Dieter finished third individually out of 32 golfers with an 81. Quinton Borseth of Stanwood took medalist honors with a 76 on the par-72 course.

Raiden Poe was next for the Wildcats, shooting 87. Steven Timm carded a 90, Aaron Kelley and Nick Whitney each shot 93 and Ben Fikse finished at 102.

“Kayak is a tough course,” coach David Smith said,” so I feel like they all played really well as a team. It was Nick and Ben’s first time on the course. Nick did very well for his first varsity match. Mason was steady all day and played good course management.”

M-P hosts the next Wesco match at the Cedarcrest Golf Course at 3 p.m. Monday, April 20. The following day the teams meet at the Whidbey Golf Club at 2 p.m.
