“Oak Harbor will send 12 individuals and three relay teams to the Wes-King District track and field championships, which will be held Friday at Lake Washington High in Kirkland.Last week, the Wildcats had three champions at the 4-A Western Conference meet. Scott Sebens won the boys’ 1,600 meters with a time of 4:23.08. Molly Bull captured the girls’ long jump with her personal best of 17 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Lesley TePaske took the girls’ pole vault at 8-6, equaling her personal best and her school record.Sebens also qualified for district in the 800, where he took second with a time of 1:57.20. Bull took second in the 800 with a time of 2:19.29. She also qualified for district as a member of the 1,600 relay team as did TePaske.Nikki Gamble, who was second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600, and Sheena Darling, who was second in the 300 low hurdles, are other members of the 1,600 relay team.Gamble had her personal best time of 5:08.32 in the 1,600. Darling had her best time of 47.2 in the hurdles.One of the best races in the boys’ competition took place in the 400. The first six runners were separated by less than 3/10s of a second. Jeremy Morgan of Oak Harbor was fourth and Brandon Hill sixth. Morgan was clocked in 50.48 and Hill in 50.55. Only the first four finishers receive a berth to the district tournament. However, Hill also went to district because he exceeded the qualifying standard for the event.Oak Harbor’s 1,600 relay of Morgan, Hill, Adam Shelly, and Jashton Cavitt finished second in 3:25.34 to qualify for district.Shelly also qualified in the 800 where he took third with a personal best time of 1:58.67.Other members of the boys’ team bound for district are Stefan Kulpa and Eric Rooney. Kulpa was third in the 300 intermediate hurdles with a personal best time of 41.12, and Rooney was third in the 3,200 with his best time of 9:46.45.Other members from the girls team that qualified for district were Maile Venable, Bethany Veach, Felicia McClary, and the 800 relay team,Venable was third in the 3,200 with her best time of 11:43.25. Veach was third in the 400 with her best time of 58.89, and McClary was fourth in the 100 with her best time of 13.42.The 800 relay team of McClary, Iesha Reaves, Christina Cooper, and Kim Gabler was fourth in 1:50.25.As far as team standings, Oak Harbor was sixth in the boys meet with 55 2/3 points. Snohomish was first with 132. The Oak Harbor girls had 88 points and tied Shorewood for fourth. Sehome won the girls’ meet with 134.”
