Wildcats bash Bruins / Girls basketball

Getting back on a winning track, the Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team derailed Cascade 48-26 Thursday, Jan. 2, in Everett.

The Wildcats opened the season with five consecutive wins before dropping two contests. With the non-league win over Cascade, Oak Harbor upped its season record to 6-2 (0-2 in Wesco).

The Wildcats return to league play when they travel to Edmonds-Woodway (2-0, 4-4) for a 7:15 game Friday, Jan. 3.

At Cascade, four Wildcats — Jasmine Ford, Payton Parks, Mikhaela Cortez and Anna Jones — all scored 4 points in the first quarter to help Oak Harbor jump to an 18-5 lead.

The advantage was 25-11 at halftime.

Cortez added 6 points and Olivia Waite 5 in the third period as Oak Harbor increased its lead to 36-14.

The Wildcat defense held the Bruins to single digit scoring in each of the first three quarters. No Cascade player scored more than 5 points in the game.

Cortez led Oak Harbor with 17 points. Jones tallied 9, Ford 7, Waite 7, Parks 6 and Chloe Frank 2.
