Sixth-ranked Glacier Peak sped by the Oak Harbor soccer team 7-1 Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

Oak Harbor coach Jeff Laiblin said the Wildcats “struggled most of the night trying to control the speed advantage” of the Grizzlies, who raced to a 3-0 lead in the first 11 minutes.

Laiblin said his squad “settled down” for the next 25 minutes, holding Glacier Peak (2-0) scoreless and punching in a goal by Jember Jansen on a nice feed from Faith Franssen.

The Wildcats picked up momentum with Jansen’s goal, but GP slipped in a goal just before half for a 4-1 advantage.

In the second half, the Grizzly goalie turned away a Chelsea Atkinson shot with a nice save, then Glacier Peak pounded in three more late goals for the win.

Laiblin said, “It was a game we would like to forget. We chose to play not at our best while playing one of the best in our league.”

Oak Harbor (0-2) goes to Lynnwood (0-3) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.
