Getting the dual season off to a good start, the Oak Harbor High School boys wrestling team defeated Kamiak 45-33 and Mountlake Terrace 60-24 in a double-dual meet Thursday, Dec. 13, in Oak Harbor.
Marysville-Pilchuck also took part, topping Terrace 72-6 and Kamiak 49-14.
The Wildcats return to tournament competition this weekend when they travel to Bellingham’s Squalicum High School to participate in the Graham Morin Invitational at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.
Oak Harbor “wrestled well,” according to coach Larry Falcon in the sweep of Kamiak and Mountlake Terrace.
“We have some injuries and some young guys had to wrestle, but it went well,” he added.
In the win over Kamiak, Oak Harbor built a 30-6 lead, but the Knights battled back, cutting the gap to six points, 39-33, with a chance to tie heading into the final bout.
The Wildcats’ Michael Fisken wrapped up the win by pinning Kamiak’s Drew Kindle in the 285 division.
Oak Harbor also went up 30-6 against Mountlake Terrace, but the Wildcats were never threatened.
Jamal Graham (120 pounds), Jakob Dailey (126) and Thibault Simorato (138) paced Oak Harbor by recording pins in each match.
