“What a difference 48 hours makes.”
Those were the words of Oak Harbor soccer coach Jeff Laiblin as he saw his team come back from a big loss Tuesday to battle host Lynnwood (0-3-1) to a 1-1 draw Thursday, Sept. 15.
“We took to the field with a changed lineup and a renewed focus and played one of our better games in recent memory,” Laiblin said in regard to the Lynnwood tie.
After dropping the game to Glacier Peak, Laiblin made six changes and was “proud of the way the team responded.”
He added, “All six moves worked great, and with the complete team effort that was given from everyone we saw a positive result in a difficult game.”
The two teams fought to a 0-0 tie at the break in a “physical” and “entertaining” match, Laiblin said.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, both teams scored within five minutes.
McKenzie Schneider hit Oak Harbor’s goal off an assist from Faith Franssen.
The Wildcats received a great save by keeper Annie Leete on a point-blank shot to keep the score tied, according to Laiblin, and the Lynnwood goalie responded with an “incredible save” in overtime off a shot from Chelsea Atkinson from a corner kick.
Laiblin said, “If tonight is representative of the play we will display the rest of the season, our season looks bright.”
Oak Harbor (0-2-1) plays Meadowdale (1-1) Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
