Wildcats boys win, girls 2nd in close meets | Cross country

The Oak Harbor High School boys cross country team eked out a three-point win while the girls lost by the same margin in a three-team meet at Skagit Valley College Thursday, Sept. 24.

The Wildcats boys edged host Mount Vernon 28-31; Stanwood trailed with 63.

In the girls race, Stanwood nipped Oak Harbor 36-39. Mount Vernon finished with 55 points.

Oak Harbor’s Miguel Guzman (17:56) and Jake Hucko (17:57) ran 1-2 in the boys 5,000-meter race, while Michael Lym (18:19) finished fifth and Tyler Grehan (18:29) seventh.

Caleb Peek (18:53) rounded out the scoring by placing 13th.

The Wildcats were paced by Alexis Smith (21:32), Carolynn Wicker (21:42) and Tamia Rios (22:15), who finished 2-3-5.

Olivia Flack (23:42) placed 10th and Kaytie DeMaio (26:06) 19th.

Also running for the Oak Harbor boys were Wyatt Pauley (19:36), Nathan Larson (20), Benjamin Gasper (20:18), Joe Gorman (20:29), Joseph Ralston (20:55), Zach Aketch (20:59), Scot Erickson (21:46), Daniel Guerrero (21:48), Cooper Treadwell (23:26), Austin Hauter (23:36), Daniel Gibson (24:12), Travis Wagner (24:18), Chris Brooks (24:22), Kurt Huscer (25:09), Lucas Nicholson (25:11), Patrick DeJesus (25:25) and Casey Towsley (25:47).

Other Wildcat girls were Natalie Merrill (27), Alana Austin (27:14), Emma Wezeman (28:37), Stephany Flores (30:42) and A.J. Diamond (31:35).

Next up for Oak Harbor is a five-team meet with Meadowdale, Monroe and Snohomish at Lake Stevens 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.
