The Oak Harbor High School soccer team lost twice this week, dropping a 2-1 match to visiting Mountlake Terrace Tuesday, Oct. 13, and falling 5-0 at Shorecrest Thursday, Oct. 15.

The Wildcats dominated the Terrace match, according to coach Mike Lonborg, “pretty much in every way we could except the score.”

Oak Harbor fired 20 shots in the first half but came up empty.

Mountlake Terrace scored on a penalty kick in the first half, then Gillian Crossley tied the match in the second half.

The Hawks (3-6, 5-7) took the lead for good off a corner kick the Wildcats failed to clear.

“Malia Hansen had her best game of the season, along with a great effort from Suzanne Kaltenbach and Alyssa Cross,” Lonborg said.

While Oak Harbor (0-8, 3-8-1) is winless in Wesco action, it has been in every match, losing only once by more than two goals, until running into powerful Shorecrest (7-1, 10-1-1).

“(We) pretty much got dominated,” Lonborg said.

One of the few highlights, he said, was the effort of Caylie Etherington, who “played hard the entire game.”

Oak Harbor goes to Glacier Peak (6-2, 7-2-3) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20.
