The Oak Harbor High School volleyball team polished up its play for the district tournament by brushing aside host Everett 3-0 in the final regular-season match Wednesday, Oct. 26.

By a quirk in the schedule, Oak Harbor (9-2, 10-4) will meet Everett (4-7, 7-7) again in the first round of district on the Wildcats’ court Monday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m.

Lynnwood (8-4) and Ferndale (8-6) will also play in Oak Harbor Monday. The winners and losers will pair up at 7 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament.

In the other district bracket at Glacier Peak High School, Mount Vernon (6-7) takes on the Grizzlies (9-5), and Meadowdale (13-1) meets Shorewood (7-7).

If Oak Harbor wins both matches, it will play for the district title at Glacier Peak Saturday, Nov. 5, a noon.

If the Wildcats split Monday, they will host a loser-out match Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.

In the win over Everett 25-15, 25-14, 26-24, Taylor Nienhuis handed out 26 assists as Kayleigh Harper recorded 11 kills, Roshel Muzzall eight and Janine DeGuzman seven.

Harper added three blocks, Muzzall 14 digs and DeGuzman four aces and 13 digs. Christina Alexander and Amanda Pavey each had 10 digs.

Oak Harbor also defeated Everett 3-1 Sept. 27.

Coach Kerri Molitor said, “I think Everett will be tough on Monday. We have to be prepared mentally; any past matches (wins or losses) make no difference now.”
