It was a defensive disaster for both teams.

The Oak Harbor High School softball team committed 10 errors in a 12-6 loss to visiting Arlington Tuesday, March 29.

None of the Eagles’ runs were earned.

Arlington (2-1, 2-4) committed only two errors, but those two miscues and a passed ball resulted in only one earned run for the Wildcats.

Despite the errors, Oak Harbor remained in the game through four innings, trailing 8-6. The Wildcats went scoreless over the final three innings, collecting only three hits and striking out seven times.

Down 2-0, the Wildcats scored in the bottom of the first inning. Alexa Findley walked, moved up on Kelly Findley’s single and scored on an error.

In the third inning and trailing 5-1, Oak Harbor scored twice. Shea Davis doubled, Kelly Findley walked and Audrey Howard singled. Davis scored on a passed ball and Findley scored on Sam Payne’s base hit.

The Wildcats’ final runs came in the fourth inning when they were down 8-3. A single by Alexa Findley, walks to Kelly Findley and Taylor Wilson, an error and a fielder’s choice from Howard resulted in three runs.

Howard finished the day with two hits; Davis doubled; and the Findleys, Tricia Sarns, Payne and Brooke Wilson all singled.

Along with allowing no earned runs, Oak Harbor starter Sarns gave up nine hits and two walks while striking out three.

Oak Harbor coach Tashina Tosh said Sarns “looked sharp.”

Tosh was pleased with the offense and the effort of her team: “Our bars woke up more than they had in our previous games. My girls left a lot on the field and unfortunately came up short. Errors were the key to the game, and Arlington ended up having fewer than us when the dust settled. We will look to buckle down our corner infielders and look to our outfield to lock down their defense in the coming games.”

Oak Harbor (0-2, 1-4) goes to Stanwood (1-1, 2-3) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 1.
