The final game was like the first and many in between.

The Oak Harbor High School baseball team, unable to get much going on offense, fell 5-1 to visiting Meadowdale Tuesday, May 6.

Lack of hitting hindered the Wildcat attack all season, and Oak Harbor mustered only six hits Tuesday, two each by Nate Stanford, Kevin Johnson and Brandon Bailey.

Oak Harbor left nine runners stranded, seven in scoring position.

Unsteady defense was also a problem this spring, and two errors, a walk and a hit allowed Meadowdale to score two runs in the third inning off starter Jozef Mendoza.

Oak Harbor countered with its lone run in the bottom of the third. Stanford singled and walks to Brent Mertins and Danny Wolfe loaded the bases. Bailey singled in Stanford.

Meadowdale (10-7, 12-8), which finished in a three-way tie for second in the Wesco South, scored a single run in the fourth and then tacked on two more in the seventh.

Oak Harbor ended the season with a 5-15 record, losing seven games by two runs or less.

The Wildcats scored three or more runs only six times; five of those were wins.

Oak Harbor placed fourth in the Wesco North with a 5-12 league mark.
