Wildcats get offensive, dump Chargers / Soccer

Breaking out of a scoring slump, the Oak Harbor High School soccer team recorded its first conference win of 2018 by whipping visiting Marysville Getchell 4-1 Saturday, Sept. 22.

The Wildcats came into the match with five goals in seven contests this season, and three of those goals came in one match.

Tiana Jackson scored in the first half in the win over the Chargers (1-4-1, 1-5-2), then Marysville Getchell countered with the tying goal early in the second period.

From there, it was all Wildcats.

Gracie Hiteshew gave Oak Harbor the lead for good with an assist from Natalie Plush.

The Chargers then helped out with an own goal off a corner kick by Plush.

Jackson, who started it all, also finished the scoring with her second goal of the contest.

“The girls played well enough to win,” coach Mike Lonborg said. “Still room to grow. Going to be a tough week against some tough opponents.”

Oak Harbor (1-5, 3-5) travels to Everett to play first-place Archbishop Murphy (5-0-1, 6-1-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25.
