The Oak Harbor High School softball team came back from a 10-4 deficit only to lose 14-10 in nine innings on a walk-off grand slam at Marysville-Pilchuck Monday, May 11.

The Tomahawks’ Hannah Larson hit for the cycle, completing the feat with a two-out, bases-loaded blast that allowed M-P (9-7, 10-9) to avoid the upset and hold onto second place the Wesco 3A North.

It’s been a tough luck year for the one-win Wildcats. Finally, after a month-long struggle to get their offense going, the ‘Cats slugged 13 hits and piled up 10 runs (more runs then their last nine game combined) but fell in extra innings, all after an impressive comeback against one of the division’s best teams.

Marysville-Pilchuck scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, then Oak Harbor took its only lead of the game with four runs in the top of the third. Tricia Sarns’ three-run double highlighted the inning, which included base hits by Shea Davis and Alexa Findley.

The Tomahawks scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning and tacked on two more in the fourth to go up 10-4.

Oak Harbor sliced into the lead with a four-run fifth inning.

A two-run single by Kelly Findley, an RBI single by Sarns and a run-scoring ground out by Samantha Payne produced the runs.

The Wildcats scored single runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to push the game into extra innings.

In the sixth, Alexa Findley singled, stole second and scored on Kelly Findley’s single.

Liz Adams tied the game in the seventh with a two-out single that scored Laura Anderson, who had walked.

Wildcat pitcher Kat Martinez blanked Marysville-Pilchuck for four innings before Larson belted the game winner.

The bottom of the ninth started with a walk, then Oak Harbor registered two outs. From there, it was “single, walk, walk-off,” said Oak Harbor coach Todd Showalter.

“We swung the bats really well,” Showalter said. “We did make six errors, and some of them cost us, but we also made some nice plays. It was a fun game to be part of.”

Kelly Findley finished the day with four singles and four RBI. Sarns rapped a single and double and drove in four runs.

Davis added three singles, and Anderson and Alexa Findley had two hits each.

Oak Harbor (1-15, 1-18) finishes the season at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, when Marysville Getchell (2-14, 4-15) visits.

The Wildcats’s one win this season came over the Chargers 10-4 April 7.
