Shorecrest remained undefeated in Wesco play by blanking the Oak Harbor High School soccer team 4-0 Thursday, Oct. 16, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
The Wildcats also lost 3-1 at Mountlake Terrace Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Shorecrest (8-0, 10-2), the only 2A team in the Western Conference, plays in the 3A division and sits atop the standings. They are ranked 10th in the state 2A poll.
The Scots scored all four goals in the first half, then turned back several strong scoring opportunities by the Wildcats after the break.
“We played better in the second half,” coach Mike Lonborg said. “We let them win too many 50/50 balls, and that’s the name of the game.”
Mountlake Terrace (5-3-1, 6-5-2) scored twice in the first 10 minutes in Tuesday’s match.
Oak Harbor responded with a goal from Jen Turnek, assisted by Caylie Etherington, before the Hawks scored again late.
“Injuries are starting to mount with one or two season-ending injuries that are hurting us badly,” Lonborg said.
Among the missing is leading scorer Mary Johnston.
On a positive note, Lonborg liked the play of freshman Etherington: “(She) played outstanding in this game and all season. She’s been more than willing to trade paint with girls substantially larger than she is and has great field vision.”
Oak Harbor (1-5-2, 5-5-2) entertains Glacier Peak (3-4-1, 4-7-1) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21.
