The Oak Harbor High School girls track team won twice and the boys split as the Wildcats opened the season with a double-dual meet at Snohomish Thursday, March 26.

Also, some of the marks posted by Oak Harbor in the meet and from the jamboree a week earlier have put the Wildcats on the state’s top-10 list among 3A athletes.

In Thursday’s double-dual meet, the Oak Harbor girls topped host Glacier Peak 99.5-89.5 and Edmonds-Woodway 115.5-70.5.

The Wildcat boys battled through two close meets, edging E-W 90-87 and losing by three to Glacier Peak, 90.5-87.5.

Winners for the Oak Harbor girls were Alana Austin (200, 27.41), Suzanne Kaltenbach (400, 1:05.68), Taylor Deconzo (javelin, 103.06), Hayley Lundstrom (high jump, 5), Jenna Cooley (long jump, 15-09) and the 4×200 relay team (Deja Bunch, Austin, Janae Payne, Matti Miesle, 1:51.17).

Dejon Devroe and John Rodeheffer were each involved in three wins for the boys. Devroe won the 200 (23.17) and 400 (50.31), and John Rodeheffer took the 1,600 (4:20.94) and 3,200 (9:55.64). The pair joined Michael Lym and Sebastian Ceaser to win the 4×400 (3:39.15).

Jared Grey swept the hurdles (110, 17.17; 300, 44.44).

Devroe currently holds the best 3A 400 time (50.14) in the state, and Rodeheffer is second in the 1,600 (4:20.94) and seventh in the 3,200 (9:55.64).

For the girls, Jonalynn Horn is fourth-best in the 3,200 (11:52.24), and Lundstrom is sixth in the high jump (5).

Bunch, Austin, Payne and Miesle rank sixth in the 4×200 (1:51.17).

Oak Harbor meets Lake Stevens at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
