In a game where everything seemed to go right for Stanwood and everything wrong for Oak Harbor, the visiting Spartans defeated the Wildcats 68-10 in girls basketball Friday, Jan. 9.
Stanwood shot a blistering 61 percent (27-for-44) from the field and committed only five turnovers to capture the easy win.
Meanwhile, Oak Harbor made only three of 26 field goal attempts (12 percent) and turned the ball over 23 times.
As can be expected in a game when they only scored 10 points, the Wildcats went long stretches without a hoop.
The offense troubles were obvious early when Oak Harbor didn’t scored until Rashanna Graham’s three-point play at the buzzer at the end of the first quarter.
Stanwood started slowly as well, failing to score until the opening period was half over. It, however, finished the quarter in a flourish, tallying 14 points.
Oak Harbor scored six of its 10 points in the second quarter.
The Wildcats’ only point in the second half was a free throw by Deja Bunch with 3:56 left in the game.
Stanwood was as hot as Oak Harbor cold after the break, connecting of 75 percent of its shots (12-for-15).
The Spartans led 40-9 at halftime and 53-9 after the third quarter.
Graham scored five points for Oak Harbor, Julie Jansen and Montana Koslowski had two each and Bunch one.
Nine Spartans scored led by Ashley Alter with 15 and Haley Strowbridge with 14. Alter was one of four freshmen who saw extensive minutes for Stanwood (2-0, 10-2).
Oak Harbor (0-1, 1-10) goes to Arlington (1-0, 9-2) at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14.
