The Oak Harbor High School swim and dive team upped its record to 5-1 by taking down both Marysville schools Monday, Sept. 28, at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.
The Wildcats defeated Marysville-Pilchuck 109-64 and Marysville Getchell 128-38. M-P beat Getchell 101-46.
Oak Harbor posted the best time in nine of the 12 events, including sweeping all three relays.
The Wildcats also dominated the 100-meter backstroke as Marissa Morris (1:12.48), Baelee Whitinger (1:17.3) and Erica Sugatan (1:21.42) finished first, second and third.
Morris added wins in the 200 freestyle (2:13.4) and two relays.
Taliah Black also won two individual events (200 individual medley, 2:22.73; 100 breaststroke, 1:20.37) and two relays.
Morris, Black, Sugatan and Jillian Pape took the 200 free relay (1:59.61); Baelee Whitinger, Black, Jillian Pape and Sugatan captured the 200 medley relay (2:13.32); and Morris, Whitinger, Sophie Dickinson and Muriel Empinado finished first in the 400 free relay (4:51.68).
Pape won the 50 free (29.69) and Sugatan grabbed the 100 free (1:07.18).
Along with the winners, Oak Harbor received strong performances from Shancie Crosby, who dropped five seconds in the 50 free, and Jada Rennes, who cut four seconds in the same event, coach Erin Bull said.
Bull was pleased with the effort of her team, noting that the 200 medley and 200 free relays were within two seconds of meeting state qualifying times.
Overall, the season is progressing well, she said.
“We are still getting used to the pace of the meets,” Bull said, and the team is working in practice on finding the right combination of sprint and endurance work.
Oak Harbor goes to Lake Stevens at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1. The Vikings are 3-0, including a 121-64 win over Glacier Peak, the only team to beat Oak Harbor (98-84).
