The Oak Harbor High School tennis team won the only close contest of the match, and that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 win over visiting Lynnwood in the season opener Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Wildcats Ryan Mene and Royce Abuda battled to a 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4 win in third doubles to secure the match for Oak Harbor.
The other six matches where one-sided, straight-set contests.
Oak Harbor captured three of the four singles matches: 1, Jackson Wezeman won 6-3, 6-2; 3, JJ Mitchell won 6-1, 6-0; and 4, Sid Thomas won 6-1, 6-2.
Jordan Park fell in second singles 6-3, 6-0.
Oak Harbor dropped the top two doubles matches: 1, John Bird and Matthew Kolden fell 6-2, 6-2; and 2, Jacob Schermerhorn and Corbin Phipps lost 6-4, 6-0.
Oak Harbor (1-0) meets Anacortes (0-0) at home at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8.
