The Oak Harbor High School swim team won all 11 events and finished second in eight others to overwhelm Monroe 130-42 at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool Monday, Sept. 19.

The win in the home opener lifted Oak Harbor’s record to 4-0. The Wildcats travel to Stanwood (1-2) for a 2:45 p.m. meet Thursday, Sept. 22.

Oak Harbor met two state qualifying times in the win over the Bearcats. The 200-meter medley relay team of Olivia Tungate, Taliah Black, Molly Vagt and Jillian Pape won in a state time of 2:09.88. Tungate added a state time, 1:08.73, while winning the 100 backstroke.

Vagt (200 freestyle, 500 free), Pape (100 butterfly, 50 free) and Tungate (50 free) fell just short of the state standards, according to coach Jenny Butler.

Three Wildcats won two individual events: Vagt (200 free, 2:16.49; 400 free, 4:46.89), Black (200 individual medley, 2:45.21; 100 breaststroke, 1:22.64) and Pape (50 free, 28.42; 100 fly, 1:09.53).

Erica Sugatan won the 100 free (1:08.16).

Pape, Black, Sugatan and Tungate captured the 200 free relay (2:01.1); and Sugatan, Naomi Garcia, Maya Krantz and Vagt took the 400 free relay (4:48.91).

“I was really proud how all the girls swam,” Butler said. “Everyone gave a 100 percent, and the girls were excited to be swimming at their first home meet in front of their friends and family.”
