Powered by four falls, the Oak Harbor High School wrestling team won its first match of the season 46-21 at Mount Vernon Thursday, Dec. 1.
Dylan Sanchez (138 pounds), Nick Dugan (182), Michael Fisken (198) and Sam Zook (285) each won by a pin for the Wildcats.
Sanchez (1:27) and Fisken (1:20) picked up first-round falls, while Dugan (2:59) and Zook (3:54) dropped their foes in the second period.
Blake McBride (145) cruised to a 16-4 win in the other contested match won by a Wildcat.
Dawson Seabolt (113), Lucas Nickelson (132) and Abe Coleman (220) all won by forfeit.
Oak Harbor lost by forfeit at 170, and double forfeits were posted at 120 and 152.
In other bouts, Zion Gomez (126) was edged 6-4, and Shamus Warden (106) and Ethan Pace (160) lost by falls.
“The kids wrestled really well for the first meet of the season,” coach Larry Falcon said. “We will be making some adjustments to improve position in all three phases of wrestling — on the feet, top and bottom. We will be picking up on the conditioning a bit as well.
“We are looking for elements of improvement each match and each dual.”
Oak Harbor (1-0) takes part in the 20-team Edmonds Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Edmonds-Woodway High School.
The Wildcats compete at home for the first time at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, when Meadowdale and Kamiak come to Oak Harbor for a double dual match.
