The Oak Harbor senior’s win in the long third singles match wrapped up a 4-3 victory for the Wildcats at Marysville-Pilchuck Wednesday, May 7.

With the team score tied at 3, Franssen battled through three tight sets to net the win. Franssen won the first set 7-5, lost 6-7(4) then eked out the third 7-6(3).

Oak Harbor added wins in the first two singles matches: Mckenzie Perry, 6-1, 6-4; and AnnaBelle Whitefoot, 7-6(7), 6-3.

The second doubles duo of Chelsea Admire and Erina Horikawa also won (7-5, 4-6, 6-2).

“Makenzie Perry continues to play well and shows improvement in each match,” coach Horace Mells said. “AnnaBelle Whitefoot is also showing improvement from match to match. She struggled with consistency during her first set but settled down and played a much better second set.”

Mells added that Admire and Horikawa “played a strong third set” to get their win in second doubles.

“Caterina Amsler, who usually play doubles, played well in the fourth singles position but came up a little short in the tie-breaker of the third set,” he added.

Amsler lost 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(3).

Zena Husler and Alyssa Eden lost in first doubles 6-4, 7-6(3); and Ellysa Bonganay and Hope Drager fell in third doubles 6-3, 6-1.

Oak Harbor (5-7, 8-7) ends the regular season at Shorecrest (5-6, 6-8) at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 9.
