The Whidbey Island Running Club produced a strong showing in the season’s initial contest as it hosted the Runnin’ the Rock cross country meet at the Gallery Golf Course Saturday, Oct. 8.
Coach Catie Rodeheffer said meet honors went to Logan Clark who “scored an impressive win” in the youth boys (13/14) division 4,000-meter race in 15:04.04.
The most improved runner, Rodeheffer said, was Wyatt Pauley who clipped 1:18 off his 2010 time while finishing 14th in the midget boys (11/12) race in 13:16.16.
In the midget girls race, Laura Rodeheffer (second, 11:47.76), Kaityln Chelberg (fifth, 12:19.35) and Carolyn Wicker (sixth, 12:40.49) all ran personal bests.
Coach Rodeheffer said the Gallery course was “extremely difficult…with hills, a hairpin turn, uphill starts and finishes, and long flowing downhills into a head win.”
WIRC will compete in two more developmental meets Oct. 15 and 22 before the Junior Olympic series starts Nov. 12 in Seattle.
Catie Rodeheffer said newcomers are always welcome to join the WIRC and that middle school and high school runners can join up for the Olympic series once their school seasons are complete.
