The Coupeville High School soccer team finished off the regular season with a 5-0 win over Chimacum Tuesday, Oct. 25, and it now heads to the district tournament.
The Wolves (6-3, 8-6-1) placed second in the Olympic League and will host the Nisqually League’s No. 3 team, the Charles Wright Academy (6-7-1), at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Oak Harbor’s Wildcat Memorial Stadium in the single-elimination opening round of district play.
If the Wolves win, they advance to the four-team, double-elimination portion of district and face Nisqually League champion Cascade Christian (14-0-1) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Sumner High School. Win or lose, they play Saturday at Silverdale Stadium. The top three teams qualify for state, so a win either day earns Coupeville a state ticket.
In the win over Chimacum (1-7, 2-8-2), Kalia Littlejohn got the party started with the Wolves’ first goal. Lindsey Roberts scored, then Mia Littlejohn racked up two goals before Roberts wrapped up the scoring with her second.
“They girls played well,” coach Troy Cowan said. “We tried to focus on passing and possession, and we tried to get the seniors who didn’t get much playing time some minutes.”
The win also gave Coupeville eight for the season, adding another to the new school record. The previous high was six.
Coupeville also qualified for the postseason for the third consecutive season.
“We keep getting better and better,” Cowan said. “We are trying to change the culture, and we want the girls to have a good experience.”
Coupeville honored its seniors at halftime: Fanny Deprelle, Lauren Grove, Mattea Miller, Bree Daigneault, May Rose and Megan DePorter.
