“Brianne King and Yashmeen Knox were triple threats for the Coupeville girls’ track team Tuesday. King and Knox each won three events as the Wolves easily won a Northwest A League track and field meet at Coupeville.^King won the 800, 1,600, and 3,200. Knox captured the javelin, high jump, and long jump.^Knox, who had gone to state in the javelin the past two years, threw the spear 105 feet, 6 3/4 inches. It was the first time this year Knox has gone over the century mark.^Knox went 14, 5/12 in the long jump, and 4-8 in the high jump.^Jess Roundy, Coupeville’s premier hurdler, won the 100 and the 300 hurdles. Heather White tied for first in the 200, and the Coupeville 400 relay team of Janae Socha, Roundy, White, and Knox finished first in 53.1.^As a team, Coupeville compiled 88 points. Archbishop Thomas Murphy was second with 65.^The Coupeville boys was third in the meet despite some strong efforts from Joe Donnellon, Matt Frost, and Rich Wilson.^Donnellon won the 1,600 and the 3,200. Frost captured the 800, and Rich Wilson won the high jump, going 6-4 to set a school record.^The Coupeville 1,600 relay of Donnellon, Frost, Tony Ruggiero, and Ian Mitchell was first in 3:43.4.^Concrete won the boys meet with 85 points. Coupeville had 69.^GAMBLE, KULPA WIN TWICE: Nikki Gamble and Stefan Kulpa each won two events Thursday for Oak Harbor in a 4-A Western Conference meet at Marysville-Pilchuck.^Gamble won the 3,200 in 12:04.5, and the 800 in 2:22.47 for the girls’ team, which finished second to Shorewood. Her time in the 800 was the second fastest in the league this spring.^Other first places by the girls came from Bethany Veach, Felicia McClary , Lesley TePaske , Molly Bull, and Chauntelle Johnson.^Veach, who began the season with an injury, posted her fastest time of the year to win the 400 in 59.82, which was also the third best time in the league this spring.^Johnson won the triple jump with her season best of 31 feet, 5 1/4 inches. TePaske tied her career best in the pole vault at 7-6.^In one of the more exciting races of the meet, McClary won the 100 in 13.6. She beat Maylee Siekawitch of Marysvile-Pilchuck by 4/100ths of a second.^Bull won the long jump at 16-2.^The Oak Harbor boys also finished second, getting beat by Marysville-Pilchuck. However, Kulpa won the 110 high hurdles in 16.5 and the 300 intermediate hurdles with a personal best of 42.10.^Jeremy Morgan led a sweep in the 400, winning in a league best time of 50 seconds. Morgan’s time was the fastest by an Oak Harbor runner since Perry Salaiz ran a 49.9 in 1983. Scott Sebens was second and Jared Jenkins third. All three ran the 400 for the first time in their track careers.^Eric Rooney won the 3,200 with time of 10:21.4, Ezrael Comicho captured the pole vault at 11-feet, and Tim Harasti was first in the high jump with his best ever of 5-8.^The 1,600 relay of Brandon Hill, Sebens, Adam Shelly, and Morgan was first in 3:30.8.^WOLVES SWEEP DARRINGTON: Sophie Carlsson won the No. 1 singles and led a sweep for Coupeville Wednesday as the Wolves’ tennis team defeated Darrington 5-0.^Carlsson defeated Marree Perrault 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match. Claire Cobb and Emily Horr defeated Harmony Perrault and Natalie Haywood 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles match.^The victory boosted Coupeville’s record to 5-1.
