Chimacum clinched at least second place in the Olympic League standings with an 8-0 win over the host Coupeville High School softball team Tuesday, May 5.

The win gave the Cowboys (5-2, 8-7) a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Coupeville (4-4, 5-10) will finish third in the Olympic League have to travel to the second-place Nisqually League school at 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, for a loser-out game in the opening round of the District 3 tournament.

Before heading off to the playoffs, Coupeville will conclude conference play at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Klahowya (6-1, 10-5) and then play three nonleague games next week.

Chimacum took advantage of a handful of Coupeville errors to score four runs with two outs in the first inning Tuesday. The Wolves could never muster enough offense to get back in the game.

“We were just hitting to where they were at,” coach Deanna Rafferty said.

Coupeville failed to place a runner past first base until the sixth inning.

The only time the Wolves put a runner on third came in the seventh inning with Hailey Hammer led off with a double and moved up a base on a wild pitch.

Katrina McGranahan went 2-for-3, and Monica Vidoni added a single.
