It’s a trend the Coupeville High School volleyball team would like to break.
The Wolves are competitive in most games but can’t quite pull out wins. They continued the pattern this week with loses in their first two conference matches, falling 3-0 to Klahowya at home Tuesday, Oct. 13, and 3-0 at Chimacum Thursday, Oct. 15.
The Eagles (1-0, 4-6) slipped by the Wolves 25-17, 25-20, 27-25.
“The girls came out tentative but became more confident as the game progressed,” coach Breanne Smedley said. “We battled in the second and third games but ultimately decided to play our game too late.”
Valen Trujillo finished with 11 digs, Katrina McGranahan had four kills and three blocks and Kyla Briscoe added three kills.
At Chimacum (2-0, 7-4), Coupeville lost 25-19, 25-23, 25-22.
Payton Aparicio led the Wolves with four aces, seven kills and 10 digs.
Valen had 15 digs, Sydney Autio 15 assists and Briscoe six kills.
“We battled pretty well again,” Smedley said, “but we couldn’t quite connect to put strings together. We made some key errors at times.”
The Wolves (0-2, 2-8) play at Port Townsend (0-1, 1-6) at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20.
