The last time the Coupeville boys met Mount Vernon Christian they let a 20 point lead slip away in the second half, resulting in a one point loss.

There was no way they were going to let it happen again on Friday.

The Wolves jumped out to a huge early lead and held on for a 75-61 home victory over the Hurricanes.

“I don’t know if it was redemption, but it was a nice win,” CHS head coach Randy King said.

Coupeville got off to a hot start behind the play of junior Mike Bagby and senior Andrew Mouw.

Bagby, who put in 28 points, was battling the flu the entire game, but seemed unaffected.

“Mike was shooting the lights out,” King said.

He was 8-for-9 from two point range, 2-for-5 from behind the three point line and 6-for-7 at the free throw line.

Mouw, who has been quiet of late, erupted for 17 points and was also a force on the defensive side of the ball.

King credited the recent play of his interior defense to Friday’s victory.

“Our inside people are making it a lot more difficult for teams to score now,” he said. “I guess we’re playing with a wolfish attitude inside right now.”

Coupeville built a 41-23 halftime lead and went up by 25 at one point in the third quarter.

The win moved Coupeville to 3-4 in the Northwest A/B and 5-8 overall. They played at Darrington last night and host Shoreline Christian (3-5, 5-6) at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21.
