Sam Wynn recorded a hit trick, goalie Dewitt Cole pitched a shutout and the Coupeville High School soccer team whipped Chimacum 9-0 Friday, March 30, at Mickey Clark Field.
The win helped the Wolves (3-1, 4-2-1) stay within a half game of Klahowya (3-0, 5-2-1) in the Olympic League standings.
Chimacum, which has been outscored 55-0 this season, fell to 0-4 and 0-5.
“Good league victory,” Coupeville coach Kyle Nelson said. “And we were able to get JV players in for some game time as well.”
The Wolves raced to an 8-0 halftime lead and cruised home.
Wynn, a freshman, led the scoring parade with three goals. Aram Leyva added two; while Derek Leyva, Ethan Spark, Chris Cernick and Jonathan Partida each scored one.
Cernick’s and Partida’s goals were their first in varsity action.
Coupeville plays two non-conference games at home this week against talented teams. Vashon Island (5-1-2) visits at 4 p.m. Monday, April 2, and Forks (6-0) comes to town at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7.
