A big win in the third game helped the Coupeville High School volleyball team to a 3-1 victory at Granite Falls Tuesday, Oct. 18.
The Wolves won 25-23, 21-25, 25-10, 25-18.
Coupeville was “just flat” at the beginning of the match, coach Toni Crebbin said, but the third game built some confidence and carried over in the game-clinching fourth set against the Tigers (3-9, 3-10).
Crebbin said her team put in a strong defensive effort as the blocking of Bessie Walstad and Makenna Martyn “did a great job shutting down their right side.”
Walstad had two stuff blocks, and the pair teamed up for eight other blocks.
Walstad added 14 digs, while Katie Smith finished with 16 and Chelsea Hudgins 15.
Smith led the offense with 10 kills.
Taya Boonstra pitched in with a strong all-around match, collecting 26 assists and three aces and hitting all 17 of her serves.
The Wolves (5-7, 6-7) hold their final league home match Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. in a Senior Night contest with Sultan (0-12, 0-14).
