Local youth baseball and softball teams produced one of the area’s best-ever showings in district tournament action this summer with six teams qualifying for their respective state tournaments.
The North Whidbey Little League junior (13/14) and 11/12 softball teams recently completed state play and the other four Whidbey teams begin this week.
The Oak Harbor and Coupeville Babe Ruth baseball teams are in Ephrata for their state tournaments.
Oak Harbor, playing in the 13-year-old division, faces host Ephrata at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, in the five-team, double-elimination tournament.
Coupeville opens the four-team, double-elimination 14-year-old tournament against Othello at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 12.
The North Whidbey junior (13/14) baseball team meets the District 9 (east King County) champion at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at Shorewood High School in the 10-team, double-elimination tournament.
The North Whidbey 11/12 baseball team opens state at Federal Way at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 16, against the winner of the District 2 and District 10 game.
