Oak Harbor High School wrestlers Sam Zook and Meredith Bain each won individual titles in tournament action Saturday, Jan. 16.

Zook (285 pounds) was one of six Wildcats to reach the finals but the only one to win as Oak Harbor placed second in the eight-team Jack Reynolds Tournament of Excellence. Host Issaquah took the team title over Oak Harbor 180-139.

For the Oak Harbor girls, it was a matter of quality over quantity at the Viking Girls Invitational in Puyallup.

The Wildcats entered only three wrestlers but still finished 14th out of 30 teams as Bain (190) took first and Caitlin Woodworth (155) second.

Yelm won the girls tournament with 194 points; Oak Harbor scored 44.

At Issaquah, Blake Servatius (106), Zion Gomez (113), Zack Aketch (145), Eriq Boler (160) and Joshua Margraf (182) all finished second.

Garrett Stahl (120) claimed third, and Blake McBride (126) and Nate Mecom (195) finished fourth.

Dymond Piper, one of Oak Harbor’s top wrestlers, did not compete because of an ankle injury.

Oak Harbor (1-1, 5-3) goes to Everett (1-1, 8-2) for a 7 p.m. match Friday, Jan. 22, and then to Renton and Hazen High School for its annual participation in the Taking Down Pancreatic Cancer Duals Saturday.
