{"id":38410,"date":"2016-09-02T11:58:31","date_gmt":"2016-09-02T18:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiwnt.wpengine.com\/news\/fall-prep-preview-oak-harbor-swim-and-dive-2\/"},"modified":"2016-10-13T20:45:24","modified_gmt":"2016-10-14T03:45:24","slug":"fall-prep-preview-oak-harbor-swim-and-dive-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.whidbeynewstimes.com\/sports\/fall-prep-preview-oak-harbor-swim-and-dive-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Fall prep preview | Oak Harbor swim and dive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>First-year Oak Harbor High School swim and dive coach Jenny Butler \u201ccouldn\u2019t be happier\u201d with the beginning of the 2016 season, particularly with Wildcats\u2019 dedication.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>With John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool unavailable for the first two weeks of practice because of maintenance, the Oak Harbor team, all 38, traveled to Anacortes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cThat&#8217;s on top of an hour of dry-land training three times a week,\u201d Butler said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Butler inherits 10 letter winners from a team that was 4-0 in the Wesco North and 7-5 overall last fall.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Returning are seniors Angele Dennen, Maya Krantz and Erica Sugatan; juniors Taliah Black, Shanice Crosby, Naomi Garcia, Jillian Pape and Baelee Whitinger; and sophomores Kelly Gruenwald and Natalie Hahn.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Also back is senior captain Maddy Harstad.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Pape was first-team, all-league and the district champion in the 50 free last year; she went on to place 13th at state. She took fourth at district and 20th at state in the 100 butterfly.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Black was fourth in the district and 21st at state in the 100 breaststroke.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Whitinger was on the Wesco first-team 400 free relay squad.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>She joined Black, Sugatan and Pape to finish second at district in the 200 medley relay and 22nd at state.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Black, Sugatan and Pape also earned second at district and 22nd at state in the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Talented junior Olivia Tungate has joined the team this season after swimming with a club for two years.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Senior Molly Vogt also returns after lettering as a sophomore.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cThe girls are all working hard and focused on getting in shape as fast as possible,\u201d Butler said.
